Invented in 1935 by Maxwell Lappe, acrylic nails were made to safeguard against nail biting. However, they pose risk factors to the health of those involved in the production and application processes. Over time, sustained exposure to toxins from handling acrylic nails can contribute to discomfort and respiratory issues for nail techs who inevitably inhale fumes as they work.

Studies have also found that leaving acrylic nails on for too long without proper attention can cause fungal infection.

Over the years, we’ve learned here at J Nail & Spa that eliminating acrylic services from our salon was a decision worth making, in order to ensure the health and wellbeing of our staff and patrons. We aimed to make this space as free of chemical fumes as possible, making it safer for all.
